Jace Herondale's Fear of Ducks *spoilers*

Hello there, it's Misty here, and I have had a very heated debate with my friend, Amber, about Jace Herondale's fear of ducks. Assuming he actually does have a FEAR of ducks, I have very strong opinions about his fear of ducks.

A little bit about my friend Amber before we start.

Amber is really pretty, and tries quite hard at academics, and is very sporty. She is also a FANTASTIC singer. Amber hasn't read any of Cassandra Clare's books, but I have been giving her brief run-throughs, and I have done very detailed descriptions of Jace Herondale, therefore, she has been discussing the books with me ever since.

Okay, so this is really just a small little thing I did for fun, and I just wanted to share my opinion.

Cassandra Clare never mentioned in her series of novels 'The Mortal Instruments' whether ducks just bothered Jace, or whether they actually scared him. The fandom eventually made Jace be scared of ducks. Now, as I have never run into Will Herondale from the Infernal Devices being SCARED of ducks, I don't know where the reference of Jace Herondale being scared of ducks came from. Now, if Jace were afraid of the Oregon Ducks football team, that would make sense, because the Ducks are pretty good at football. I mean, going to the national championship! I mean, seriously!

I haven't finished the Infernal Devices yet, so I am going on references to what I know. I will post an updating post on this if I happen to have different ideas.

So, Amber and I discussed the whole Jace not liking, or Jace being scared of ducks question, and we came down to this.

We are assuming Jace has a strong disliking of ducks, not a fear of them. He tries to avoid them in fan arts not because he is scared of them, but rather because he feels strongly uncomfortable around them.

But many people have a fear of ducks, therefore, we decided to ask ourselves a simple question. Does Jace's fear of ducks make him any less hotter, or a worse Shadowhunter.

MY opinion on Jace's hotness. Jace is beyond gorgeous, even at my standards. Personally, I am not a sucker for light eyes or fair hair, and most of the time, I tend to watch personalities rather than looks, which in Jace's case was good, because his looks might have made me hate him. But that doesn't keep me from loving his looks. Despite the blonde hair and golden eyes, he has a very angular face, which I LOVE!! Eventually, I got used to the whole blonde thing, and I ended up falling into the golden eyes. So yes, he is WAY hotter than the average person.

So, does his fear of ducks make him LOOK any less attractive? No. That is not possible, unless he got plastic surgery, which he DOESN'T NEED and he knows it!

Jace's personality is beyond amazing. He's loyal, and really soft and sweet on the inside, but he has this hard wall, or shell of this rude, sarcastic, over confident personality. In the books, Clary is constantly talking about how he is guarded by this personality, and throughout the books as he loves her more and more, she tells about how she is peeling away his fake personality like she would peel off a glamour. I think this is super sweet. Jace's outer personality is just any kind of 17 year old bad boy. Then, we get to his inner 'core' personality, in which he is really careful, and actually just this somewhat fragile kid who has so many insecurities and hardships that he kind of crammed in. I really like Jace's inner personality, because his outer personality is just this stuck up boy, but his inner personality is really just this imperfect, but somewhat perfect personality that just warms our hearts.

With the looks and the personality combined, Jace is this really cool, kind, sweet, gentle person. The whole duck situation, I feel makes him a little bit better actually, and his looks and personality kind of hide the duck situation.

That was basically a short version of our conversation, so I'll see you next post guys, BYEEE!

  1. Not that it's relevant or anything but I was just wondering if you can give me the order in which the series has to be read.
